Dr. William Boothe Discusses Potential Dangers Of Wearing Eyeglasses
Over half of the world’s population is in need of some kind of corrective visual aids. Most people who use eyeglasses do not even suspect that glasses have a detrimental effect on their vision. Dr. Boothe explains the most common dangers that eyeglass wearers should realize:
1. Falls are the most common cause of eyeglasses-related traumas. Due to research, thousands of people in the U.S. annually become victims of falling with eyeglasses when glass fly into their eyes and hurt them. Some of those people lose their vision forever. Nearly 90 percent of the eyeglasses-related traumas due to falls occur among older adults.
2. Sports and recreation activities lead to the majority of eyeglasses-related injuries (one third of all cases) in children. Cuts to the head, face or eyes are the most common injuries (about 65 percent).
3. When you wear eyeglasses, your eyes get used to see improperly. If your eyes are dependent on the eyeglasses, their natural restoration is hampered.
It is a fact that many people use eyeglasses and consider them as a perfect way to resolve their vision problems. However, this type of visual aids can pose some risk and harmful effects to your eyesight in the long term.
Continuous wearing of prescription eyeglasses
Many people who have bad vision want to know if it is harmful to permanently wear eyeglasses. Sometimes eyeglasses are the only chance for a person to see what goes on around and at distance. So why there is a suspicion that eyeglasses can be harmful when wearing them continuously?
According to Boothe Eyecare, those who suffer from age-related farsightedness know that daily use of eyeglasses is form a strong habit. Firstly, a person will not be able to get rid of them, and secondly, his/her vision will decrease more quickly. Nearsighted people also have problems with eyeglasses. In this case, the eyesight does not worsen as fast as in farsighted people, but certain signs of visual impairment are noticed. Wearing eyeglasses is not advisable at all for those who have 2-diopter difference between eyes since this may lead to bad headaches, dizziness and other problems.
