Lasik is the safest and most advanced laser correction option for refractive errors (myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism). This computerized technology allows patients to eliminate not only nearsightedness and farsightedness, but also any type of astigmatism (irregular, complex and mixed), even after any earlier refractive treatments. Boothe Eye Care & Laser Center has achieved excellent results for their patients with mixed astigmatism by using Lasik. It has become one of the most popular treatments at our center!

Excimer laser correction helps patients restore their vision by the most natural known methods. It is based on a program that develops a “computer conversion” of the cornea. This conversion allows the laser to correct vision problems at the submicron level. This means that Dr. William Boothe is able to focus light rays on the retina with the highest accuracy, allowing him to obtain maximum results for vision correction.

Vision correction surgery that is performed with an excimer laser is very accurate and it provides stable results and maximum safety. The procedure is completely painless and bloodless. Best of all, the operation lasts at most 10 minutes, and the recovery period is only a couple of days.

Because of advancement in laser vision correction, Dr. Boothe is able to perform a successful Lasik laser surgery without a surgical knife.

LASIK
Lasik (an acronym for Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis – “laser keratomileusis”) is a modern form of vision correction by means of an excimer laser. This operation allows you to fix a variety of visual impairments such as hyperopia (up to +6 diopters), myopia (-15 diopters) and astigmatism (up to ± 4 diopters). The operation is practically painless, is performed quickly, and allows you to restore normal vision safely.

Limitations for laser vision correction
•	Must be at least 18 years of age
•	Cannot be pregnant or breast-feeding
•	Contraindications to laser vision correction (confirmed by a doctor)
Contraindications for Laser Vision Correction
•	Autoimmune diseases (collagen, arthritis).
•	Primary and secondary immunodeficiency states
•	Systemic diseases that affect the healing process
•	Single eye.
•	Corneal thickness of less than 500 microns
•	Glaucoma
•	Keratoconus
•	Progressive myopia
•	Cataracts, regardless of stage of development
•	Retinal detachment
•	Diabetes mellitus
•	Presence of a pacemaker
•	Herpes simplex and herpes zoster

In the case of progressive myopia, Dr. Boothe will first suggest scleroplasty surgery in order to stop the deterioration of your vision.

Boothe Eye Care & Laser Center offers excimer laser vision correction for nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism with Lasik & IntraLasik. Choice of the method of correction is determined after a thorough diagnosis.

Boothe Eye Care Center offers the most advanced form of vision correction – Lasik, which is a unique combination of microsurgical and excimer laser technology. This technique first appeared in 1989 and today, it is unmatched in popularity of application.

In this method, the laser operation is performed by using the latest generation excimer laser. By using the “spot scanning method” this laser system allows the energy load on the patient’s eye to be reduced. In this way, the ideal shape of the cornea is achieved, which allows you to adjust focus with absolute precision. Vision is restored within 2-3 hours after surgery. The method is painless, because local anesthetic drops are used before the procedure. The operation is performed on an outpatient basis on both eyes in one day. This operation reduces the rehabilitation period to several days.
Laser vision correction procedure for Lasik (Lasik) is carried out for:

- Myopia up to -15,0 D
- Hyperopia up to +6,0 D
- Astigmatism up to ± 5,0 D

What is important to know about laser vision correction?
1.	Convenience. You will be able to get rid of you glasses and contact lenses.
2.	Not scary and safe. The modern method of laser vision correction – Lasik – is simple and within 2 hours after surgery you can go home and the following day you will be able to see the world quite differently. The surgery is performed safely under local anesthesia with minimal discomfort.
3.	Effective. The vast majority of vision after laser eye surgery is 100% and sometimes higher!
4.	Easy. Laser vision correction does not cause any inconvenience to your lifestyle.
5.	Fast. The operation takes 15 minutes, and you can perform laser eye correction procedure immediately after a full computer diagnostic of your vision.
6.	Stable. The result of laser correction does not change with age in the absence of other eye diseases.
7.	Predictable. After the diagnosis Dr. Boothe will be able to predict whether or not you will be able to achieve 100% of vision, and if not, he can explain why.

It is important to know that the use of high technology allows achieving the best results only with strict observance by the patient of following simple rules:

Before the surgery:
Do not wear contact lenses for 7 days before surgery. Do not use cosmetics and makeup for one day before surgery. On the eve of the operation carefully wash your hair and face.

During the operation:
Listen carefully to the commands of the surgeon and strictly follow them; do not pay attention to the harsh sounds (buzzing, clicks); strictly fix the eyes on the luminous point: it affects the result of the operation; do not make any head movements.

Immediately after the operation:
- It is strictly forbidden to touch the eye.
- Close eyelids slowly without squeezing.
- On the first day it is recommended to sleep on their backs.

Within 1-2 hours after surgery, Dr. Boothe will examine you and provide the necessary additional recommendations.
In the first four weeks after surgery, be sure to use eye drops. Visual and physical activity should be limited. Within a month is not recommended to take long baths or swim..

Your eyes are as unique as you are yourself! Therefore, you should be sure that they are treated accordingly. Just like you, your eyes have their own unique features.

So why should you get IntraLasik surgery, which anyone can get at the Boothe Eye Care & Laser Center?

IntraLasik laser vision correction, which is performed at Boothe Eye Care, takes into account the individual characteristics of your eye, making vision correction unique for you!
Of course, any method of Lasik may help reduce your need for glasses or contact lenses. But only IntraLasik provides an individual approach, and gives as a result the most natural vision!
IntraLasik laser vision correction uses the latest technology to optimize the wave front, taking into account individual features of your eyes.

Using advanced diagnostic technology for laser installation, the Allegretto Wave Eye-Q, IntraLasik laser vision correction actually creates a personal “map” of your eyes. This “map” is the individual characteristics of your view, which covers all the “strangeness” and features of your eyes. Using this “map” as a kind of statement, Dr. William Boothe increases the possibility to personalize the IntraLasik operation in order to obtain maximum results.

Before, LASIK surgery changed the shape of the eye without regard to the natural curvature of the cornea. Now, laser vision correction actually adjusts to the unique curvature of your eyes, changing it closer to the ideal natural form. If your intention is to undergo laser vision correction, you should choose such an operation, which can take into account the unique characteristics of your eyes. You now have a good choice – IntraLasik laser vision correction.

Reliability
Your eyes are one of the most valuable gifts that nature has given you. So when it comes to IntraLasik, the security of your view will always be a priority.

Speed
It’s about the speed of the laser. Each pulse of the laser setup of Allegretto Wave Eye-Q continues at billionths of a second before the laser goes to its next position – it is almost 100 times faster than other lasers!

Accuracy
Of course, the speed will mean nothing if the laser is not precise in the correction of your vision. In this regard, much depends on the size of the “light spot” of the laser. The light spot of the laser setup Allegretto Wave Eye-Q is 0.8 mm!

In addition, the technology of accurate eye movement tracking helps to coordinate the work of the laser with unintentional movements of your eyes during the IntraLasik operation. Dr. Boothe, while performing IntraLasik laser vision correction, uses an advanced tracking technology of eye movement, which is 8 times faster than in previous generations of laser systems!
We will always be happy to give you additional information about the different methods of laser vision correction. You can reach us by phone at (214) 328-0444. Call the Boothe Eye Care & Laser Center today!

Dr. William Boothe, one of the world’s top eye surgeons, provides a quick analysis of the pros and cons of contact lenses.

It turns out that contact lenses are much better than glasses. The lens in glasses is a massive optical medium, which creates some distortion. For example, between the eye and the glasses is the air and a few centimeters of space and this is another medium which along with the glasses lens, refracts light. The light is then refracted on the cornea itself. In total we have three refractive mediums compared to to contact lenses, which create only one refractive medium. Contact lens and the eye bond together to create a single entity, essentially enhancing the retina to create one medium refractive index and as result it has only one distortion point.

If the severity of nearsightedness is not more than five diopters, the contact lens is definitely the better option. In addition, contact lenses provide a wider field of view in comparison to glasses. The cornea has a spherical surface and the glasses has flat one. This means that the image distortion is inevitable.

A con about contact lens is each individual user’s ability to comfortably wear contact lenses. Certain people have a steep cornea, while others have a flat cornea. This changed the position in which the contact lens sits on the eye and has a great effect on user comfort.

At Boothe Eye Care Center we receive many parents who inquire whether or not their child can wear contact lenses. The answer to that is “yes”. Children whom are taught good hygiene habits especially after playing or eating, and wash their hands after such activity can wear contact lenses.

After the age of forty, someone who has never used contact lens before, are advised not to switch because of the adjustment period that would accompany such a drastic switch.
Although contact lenses allow you to partake in your favorite activities and hobbies or sports, certain care should be taken when swimming with contact lenses whether it is a pool or ocean.

Eleven Tips: How can you save your sight?

In order to preserve your eyesight, Dr. William Boothe of Boothe Eyecare offers a few tips. Dr. William Boothe is an experienced eye surgeon who has performed over 100,000 Lasik surgeries at his facility, Boothe Eyecare & Laser Center. Here are some tips that you should try to keep in mind, if you wish to preserve your eyesight.

1.	Avoid wind and direct bright light, like sunlight and artificial light.
2.	Do not read while lying down.
3.	If your eyes are too tired or feel heavy, give them a rest. This advice applies to weak eyes, and even perfectly healthy eyes, but not for patients who are recovering from a procedure that needs to rest. Healthy, young eyes should never be left inactive for a long time. You need to have a feasible exercise, even small-scale lessons – reading or writing the smallest font.If you keep your eyes busy this way, then you can probably avoid glasses until you get older. But we should always remember, while training the eye, do not overdo it.
4.	Wash your eyes with cool water every day, both in the morning and evening. Wash your eye after tears or returning from a walk in windy weather.
5.	Never sit down in front of a light, do so that it illuminates from the left side and not on the right.
6.	The best lampshade to use for the eyes is a white opaque or light blue. What is bad to use is white matte with a variety of stripes and patterns, as well as dark-blue and green. When working with artificial light, it is desirable to cover the lamp with paper to protect your eyes from the heat.
7.	If you are nearsighted and wearing glasses to help see well into the distance, you should not use them for work.
8.	When leaving from a warm place to a cold place, you should try at least blink your eyes so they do not feel the sudden transition from warm to cold.
9.	You should never get to work or reading as soon as you come from outside, especially in cold weather and windy weather.
10.	Never start to do something in the morning before washing your face and eyes.
11.	When waking from sleep when the body goes into wakefulness, this is a good time to affect the eye muscles. It is recommended not to miss this opportunity to perform eye exercises, which do not take much time. This definitely prepares your eye muscles for the working day.

The Beauty and Health of Our Sight
Our vision is a priceless gift. But we do not cherish it properly partly because we underestimate the threat of the television and computer on our eyes. But it is extremely difficult to restore vision, and sometimes nearly impossible. Not only do flickering screens affect our eyes, visual acuity is also influenced by medication, headaches, and the condition of vessels. Of course, the optimal and best choice for the problem is to find your way to Boothe Eye Care & Laser Center, but also before and after your visit Dr. Boothe, you can help yourself and be careful of your vision. Dr. Boothe will tell how it is possible.

How to preserve your eyesight

First of all, we already know that the computer is harmful to our eyes, so you should to deal with it carefully. If you buy special lenses or glasses to work with it, it will avoid many problems. If you have to work long hours with text or numbers, be sure that you reboot your eyes with exercises every two hours.

We cannot immediately deduce that a computer monitor directly causes a headache. However, almost 80% of people suffering from bouts of headaches work on laptops / computers. The exercises are very simple and can help significantly. Enclose your face in your hands and blink for half a minute, then close and reopen your eyes. Do not forget to blink more often when you look at the monitor to avoid drying out your eyes.

A great exercise you can do is to take a break from work. Go to a window and look far, far away, for example, at a distant TV tower. Then take a pen and focus clearly at its tip. By hand, move the pen in different directions, and watch the movements with your eyes, but don’t move your head.Of course, the ideal way is to take a break and take a walk along the street, or lie down with your eyes closed for an hour. Never sit in front of TV or monitor if you want your eyes to rest. Suppose that you are surrounded by green color, not light green, namely green because it soothes the nerves, including eye.
Of course, there are products that you need to eat because they contain substances that help maintain eye health. Lutein, vitamin A and C should be consumed every day, but in the dose of what you need individually. Do not forget to wear quality sunglasses, and vice versa, stop the habit of wearing them when you don’t need to. An excellent way to save your vision is to make a cold compress. It could be ice or simply soaked cotton pad on your eyelids. If your eyes turn red, then you need to brew a tea with chamomile (also does not hurt to add sage). If applied to the eyes and then washed this quickly relieves cramps and swelling of the eyelids. Just tea bags will help to quickly relieve fatigue, even if you’re at work.

Lasik laser eye surgery at Boothe Eye Care only takes a few minutes, but the postoperative period may take longer and this healing period is very important! Here are some pointers to help you heal faster after having Lasik laser correction:

First, it is very important to follow your surgeon’s postoperative recommendations of eye medications and precautions in order to heal quicker.

Secondly, you should eat the best food for eye health! A proper diet will not only positively influence your general health, but may be good for your eyes too. For example, eggs have choline, which promote the building of new cells. It is also useful to take a folic acid for vitamin B. Your daily menu should include:

Omega-3’s: salmon, soybeans, walnuts, and fish oil supplements
Zeaxanthin and lutein: squash, corn, spinach, broccoli, kale
Vitamin C: papaya, strawberries, red bell peppers, oranges
Vitamin A: carrots, green leafy vegetables, organ meats

It is important to eat a lot of protein rich foods during the recovery period! Eat light but nutritious meals. Before surgery the majority of patients are anxious and it might affect appetite. Therefore, make sure that you will not starve yourself before surgery but also ensure that you do not overeat. In the morning prior to laser eye surgery have a snack or eat a light meal. Also make sure that any medications you take during the day of your surgery is approved by your surgeon.

Blended vision is an advanced laser procedure that corrects myopia of one eye and hyperopia of another eye. Blended vision adjusts each eye of the patient in different ways. It is used to adjust one eye to see the distant objects and the other eye to see nearby objects. Blended vision or Monovision procedure is also used to correct presbyopia. Presbyopia occurs when the eye lens loses its flexibility, and the condition makes it difficult to focus in order to see nearby objects. Presbyopia is a condition that is found in individuals who are 40 or older.

Even though the condition appears suddenly, it is actually a gradual process happening over a period time. The flexibility loss of the lens is a gradual process that occurs as a person ages. Presbyopia cannot be prevented by any kind of medical treatments. Difficulty in reading, blurred vision and straining of eyes while reading are the major symptoms of this condition. No treatment can cure presbyopia, and it is usually treated by using reading glasses or bifocals. Apart from Refractive Lens Exchange and Conductive Keratoplasty, it can be treated by Blended vision or Monovision laser surgery. Monovision is a treatment in which one eye is fixed with distant lens and another with near lens.

Every person has a dominant as well as a non-dominant eye. Quick Eye Dominance test is performed to determine which is which. Normally, we are all using our dominant eye to see distant objects. Even if the non-dominant eye is working simultaneously with dominant, the brain prefers to use the signals received from the dominant eye than the non-dominant eye. In the Monovision eye procedure, a lens for near vision is used to fix into the non-dominant eye to correct the near vision and vice versa. The patient must go through a period of adjustment and most presbyopic persons are adjusting with Monovision. The patient will take at least one or two weeks to adjust with Monovision.

Blended vision or Monovision LASIK procedure can be performed on patients who have had benefits by using monovision contact lens. This LASIK procedure cannot be performed on everyone because this procedure is intended for presbyopic patients. With the blended vision procedure, you can achieve good distant and near vision. You should not expect a perfect vision outcome through the Monovision procedure, as you cannot achieve a perfect vision out of this surgical procedure.

Dr. Boothe of Boothe Eye Care will evaluate his patients to understand whether or not they are eligible for a blended vision or monovision LASIK procedure. He will also find out which is the dominant and non-dominant eye with the help of Quick Eye Dominance test. Monovision LASIK surgery is performed only when the health of the patient is in good condition. Dr. Boothe will determine the required amount of correction according to the present prescription of the eyes. After Monovision or Blended Vision Lasik procedure, you can enjoy reading without using contact lenses or eye glasses.

Introduction

Discoveries are made every day in the medical field but some are more significant than others with regards to widespread implementation and the actual effect they have on our daily lives. Wavefront mapping, for example, is a technology that has revolutionized the world of ophthalmologic medicine and given us a better understanding of the human eye.

With this technology, an ophthalmologist is able to more accurately determine the diopters that each person needs to correct their vision. As you may know, there are many types of eye problems. Some are treatable by glasses or contact lenses, and others by surgery. In order for a doctor to realize what is causing reduced or impaired vision, some tests need to be done. This is where Wavefront mapping is useful. During an eye exam in the past, a doctor would have to try various lenses on a patient to see if that particular strength improved their vision, and then to rely on the patient’s subjective affirmation of improvement. These days, the process can be automated using Wavefront mapping, and the results are much more accurate and reliable.

How does Wavefront mapping work?

The patient is seated in front of a piece of medical equipment, from which a beam of light is passed through his or her eyes. The reflected light is used to create a map of the eye with all its unique aberrations. From this, Dr. Boothe, is able to see exactly what is wrong with the eye. Furthermore, if the patient chooses to undergo laser eye surgery, the doctor will pass this exact data into the computer that powers the laser during the procedure, which helps the doctor perform the best surgery possible. No one has a perfect Wavefront mapping since no one has perfect eyes; however, not all aberrations affect your vision or need to be corrected. In many cases our eyes become accustomed to these aberrations and they fix the problem by themselves.

Advantages of Wavefront mapping

There are so many advantages for Wavefront mapping, that only few doctors are solely relying on older methods to detect vision problems. Dr. Boothe recommends a mapping for each patient, as it is a very accurate and fast process, and has no harmful side effects. All you have to do is look into the device, and the computer takes care of everything else. One of the main advantages is the accuracy and the speed of the process. Another interesting advantage is that the data collected from this mapping can be used to calibrate other medical devices, for example in laser eye surgery. In an ophthalmological office like Dr. Boothe’s, Wavefront mapping is one of the standard procedures for every patient. From this, the doctor knows exactly with what problems to address, and the patient can be assured they are received the correct treatment. Wavefront mapping can be used to determine and aid in the resolution of so many visual problems, that today it is recognized as one of the most important pieces of equipment in an ophthalmology office.

Introduction

Today, laser eye surgery is considered to be one of the most effective procedures to liberate people from the use of eye glasses or contact lenses. The extraordinary excimer lasers used in this technologically-advanced procedure are among the most impeccable pieces of medical equipment ever invented. A step above other manufacturers, VISX is a pioneering organization that led the advancement of this laser technology platform for vision rectification. In some ways, it is reasonable to say that VISX “invented” the concept of vision rectification through the use of laser technology. VISX created the efficacious Star S4 laser that has made laser eye surgery readily accessible today. Boothe Eye Care offers this innovative technology, which has a heritage of reliability, performance, and outstanding results, to ensure that his patients receive the most impeccable treatment available.

VISX Star S4 Laser Technology

VISX Star S4 technology is one of the most advanced laser systems available for vision correction offered by Dr. Boothe. It is approved by the FDA for standard LASIK and PRK treatments. The Star S4 features ActiveTrak, an efficient infrared eye tracker that tracks the eyes in three distinct dimensions. The Star S4 also features Variable Spot Scanning, which uses seven variously sized laser beams for quicker, easier, and more precise treatment. Blend Zone functionality allows for a larger area of treatment, which is ideal for individuals with larger pupils, and reduces the occurrence of nighttime glare. The Star S4 excimer laser delivers high-energy pulses to the eye’s corneal surface to accurately and precisely reshape the cornea. Dr. Boothe’s skill combined with the VISX Star S4 laser will give you the best laser eye surgery possible.

Unlike some other models, the VISX Star S4 excimer laser does not require that the patient’s pupils be dilated before beginning the procedure. This allows Dr. Boothe of Boothe Eye Care to focus more narrowly on your line of vision, and reduces photosensitivity after the procedure.

VISX STAR S4 Benefits
•	Iris Registration technology allows for perfect alignment of the CustomVue treatment to the cornea during the reshaping process.
•	Iris Calibration adjusts for movement of the patient’s eyes during the procedure.
•	Variable Spot Scanning provides accurate sizes for different treatment types.
•	Variable Repetition Rate optimizes treatment time.
•	Tissue-saving algorithms preserve natural corneal tissue as much as possible.
